Yet another Tik Tok skin trend is doing the rounds – skin flooding. We asked our Education Manager Victoria to talk us through it and find out if it’s worth the hype.

What is skin flooding?

This latest skin care trend, in my opinion is nothing new. Essentially, ‘skin flooding’ is layering hydrating formulas onto the skin and applying serums and creams to damp skin to maximise hydration. Layering hydrating formulas onto damp skin is something at Dermalogica we’ve always recommended to help with even product absorption and to help your products go further. All skin types will benefit from being adequately hydrated so this trend is suitable for all skins. This trend also lends itself to the trend of stripping back to the skin care basics with a focus on hydration to build skin’s barrier and healthy skin function. A good tactic when your skin condition is fluctuating.

How to do skin flooding

The concept of a ‘skin flooding’ regimen is to start with a gentle hydrating cleanser – rather than a foamy wash which are typically more degreasing. Follow with a mist, then whilst skin is damp, apply a hydrating serum, something with Hyaluronic Acid is ideal then moisturiser to seal it all in. Some suggest misting between all these layers, but this isn’t necessary if your formulas contain good quality humectants (hydrating actives) and is probably a waste of product.

Skin flooding with Dermalogica

These formulas are all super hydrating and suitable for all skins.

  1. Intensive Moisture Cleanser Cleanse skin with this creamy cleanser, fortified with BioReplenish complex to actively nourish skin whilst removing impurities.
  2. Hyaluronic Ceramide Mist Saturate skin with hydration with a few spritzes of this hydrating mist. Four types of Hyaluronic Acid plus Ceramides lock in hydration and fortify skin’s barrier.
  3. Circular Hydration Serum Whilst skin is damp from the hydrating mist, press a few drops of this hydrating serum onto skin. Hyaluronic Acid, Polyglutamic Acid and plant derived sugars flood skin with moisture and kick-start skin’s hydration cycle for long-lasting results.
  4. Skin Smoothing Cream This medium-weight moisturiser with Active HydraMesh Technology™ infuses skin with 48 hours of continuous hydration and helps protect against environmental stress.

In your morning regimen, add a layer of SPF for UV defence.
