real role models…
A new report by Girlguiding UK is questioning good role models amongst girls and young women. The report sheds light on the range of positive examples available to girls and young women aged 7 to 21, who do girls look up to, and why? A large number of the younger teens surveyed looked up to singers, actors and dancers, while the older girls where more inspired by characters such a Sir Richard Branson, Lord Alan Sugar and JK Rowling.
A slightly concerning 57% of girls questioned believed that women work much harder than men to succeed, however when asked whether they would consider setting up and running their own business, many were positive about this, seeing it as a chance to do something that they would really enjoy.
At Dermalogica helping independent girls reach their dreams and become successful business women is our main goal (obviouslyalong with great skin health!). The UK born founder of Dermalogica, Jane Wurwand, learned how to work hard in the early days, as her real role model mother cared for her along with her three sisters after losing her Dad at a young age. These lessons learnt paved the way for Jane to start her business in the form of the International Dermal Institute in 1983, to train professional skin therapists and focus on skin health, not beauty. Three years later, she started the skincare brand we have all grown to love, Dermalogica.
Jane is still today passionate about helping a woman help herself. With over 75,000 skin therapists in over 80 countries using Dermalogica, we are helping women entrepreneurs stand on their own two feet to be successful and credible business women.
So let’s be a real role model. We may not be a personality on TV and sure, we quite possible have two left feet, but we are women and we are proud of all our achievements!
