For most, their wedding day is one of, if not the most, important days of their life. Understandably, brides want to look radiant and exude effortless natural beauty but the stress of planning a wedding can impact heavily on appearances. To help keep skin tip top and wedding-ready, the skin health experts from Dermalogica have provided their expert guidance to ensure the bride looks nothing less than flawless.

super smooth skin, the secret: The NEW Active Resurface 35 is the latest professional treatment from the skin health experts and ideal for brides-to-be. Active Resurface 35 is completely customisable to individual skin requirements, providing intense resurfacing to stimulate cell renewal and cell turnover whilst helping to treat key skin concerns such as skin ageing, sun damage, fine lines, dehydration and pigmentation. The hero formulation is Exfoliant Accelerator 35: this AHA-BHA concentrate contains the highly active skin-smoothing ingredients lactic acid and salicylic acid, along with a complex of proteolytic enzymes and peptides to boost exfoliation.

For best results, follow a course of 6 treatments, starting at least 8 weeks before your wedding and allowing at least a week’s grace after your last treatment in the course before the big day to ensure skin is looking it’s best. Contact your nearest Dermalogica stockist for availability here.

blemishes, the lowdown: Generally spots get squeezed, poked and scrubbed; unfortunately, neither the spot nor the skin responds well to these remedies. Spots can be caused by both internal and external factors, however, in adults the largest contributing factor is stress. One side-effect of stress is the stimulation of the adrenal glands to produce not only adrenalin but also testosterone which may increase oil production in the sebaceous glad. The surplus sebum combined with dead skin cells in the follicle can cause a blockage which eventually breaks out.

target the stress: Stress levels will be on overdrive after the planning, so treat yourself to some much-needed down time; enjoy a night in with your girlfriends and a DIY facial. The MultiVitamin Power Recovery® Masque is a cocktail of ultra-replenishing antioxidant-rich ingredients and is truly a bride’s secret weapon. Botanicals help soothe and calm stressed skin while vitamins A, C and E help repair damaged skin. Victoria Beckham is a devotee, calling it her “little ambulance in a tube”.

target the blemish: if you do get a blemish close to the big day, keep bacteria at bay and don’t pick, squeeze or touch it. After cleansing, apply the Overnight Clearing Gel to the area and leave on while you sleep. The treatment gel helps clear skin and prevent future breakout activity: Salicylic Acid and anti-microbial agents aid the removal of dead skin cells, reduce excess sebum and diminish bacteria, while Green Tea soothes while Hyaluronic Acid hydrates skin.

conceal the blemish: most blemishes won’t completely disappear overnight but the Overnight Clearing Gel will calm an aggravated spot yet it won’t conceal it. The solution? The Concealing Spot Treatment. This tinted spot treatment helps conceal and clear breakouts upon contact. Sulphur and Zinc Oxide help eliminate breakout-causing bacteria while clearing excess oil and congestion in the follicle. Salicylic Acid sloughs off dead skin cells that contribute to clogged follicles, helping to prevent future breakouts. Conveniently, the tube is small enough to fit into a clutch bag and can be applied throughout the day.

complexion perfection: blemishes or not, you want your make-up to stay put and look fresh throughout the day. Start by ensuring your ‘canvas’ is smooth and hydrated; use the brides’ favourite Daily Microfoliant® to slough away dead cells, instantly leaving skin smoother and brighter. After toning and moisturising, apply your primer: the NEW AGE Smart® SkinPerfect Primer SPF30 combines make-up product features (prolongs make-up wear and provides a smooth base for make-up) with anti-ageing properties (contains peptides to boost collagen levels and an SPF 30 to protect against harmful UV rays) to ensure you look radiant whilst protecting your skin all day.

Keep your coverage for the ‘big day’ natural and minimal; the Sheer Tint SPF20 is a great option - a lightly-tinted SPF moisturiser that provides an all-day sheer wash of colour. Hydrolysed Pearl amino acids, hydrating Hyaluronic Acid and antioxidant Walnut Seed extracts help improve
skin texture and reduce the appearance of fine dehydration lines.

After make-up has been applied, ensure skin stays looking dewy and fresh throughout the day by spritzing the Multi-Active Toner over the whole face. This ultra-light toner contains Arnica and Cucumber extracts to help keep skin smooth and revitalised. The spritz also comes in a travel size (50ml); the perfect handbag companion.

Do you still need an extra boost after your morning coffee to get a little more pep in your step? Awaken your senses with some refreshing, skin-boosting products from Dermalogica to ensure you start your day feeling energised!

While the coffee is brewing, revive tired skin with the Dermal Clay Cleanser. Massage the product with damp fingers on to a dampened face and throat, concentrating on areas of congestion then rinse with warm water.

Why? Dermal Clay Cleanser contains refreshing Menthol to revitalise skin and purifying Bentonite and Kaolin Clays to ensure skin is squeaky clean.

Before you head out the door, brighten up your eye area with a slick of Total Eye Care SPF15.

Why? This multitasking tube of magic contains skin-smoothing Alpha-Hydroxy Acids to help conceal dark circles, and reduce the appearance of puffiness and fine lines. Optical light diffusers and a ‘hint of tint’ help diminish dark circles while a chemical-free sunscreen helps to shield against sun damage.

Post Lunchtime Low

Does the post lunch slump sound famillar? There are a few products which should be kept at arm’s reach in the desk draw for those moments when you need a quick surge of oomph.

Apply over face, back or other oily areas as a hygienic touch-up.

Why? The take-anywhere wipes contain Salicylic Acid to quickly remove excess oils to ensure skin stays clean and feels renewed; also ideal for travel, gym and outdoor enthusiasts.

Get another afternoon pick-me-up from a refreshing spritz of the Multi-Active Toner.

Why? This ultra-light toner contains Arnica and Cucumber extracts to reinvigorate and smooth the skin. Spritz over the face and throat with closed eyes throughout the day and pack in your hand luggage to keep skin hydrated in-flight.

Rescue Remedies to Beat the Daily Grind

After a long day, relax, unwind and take a few minutes for yourself. Run a nice hot bath and add 4 to 8 pumps of the Stress Relief Treatment Oil for an aromatherapy sensation.

This soothing, multifunctional blend combines essential oils of Sandalwood, Lavender, Orange and Clary Sage. Naturally-purifying extracts of Tea Tree, Lemon, and Ylang-Ylang help to counteract the negative mental effects of stress for the ultimate in relaxation.

While the bath is running, apply the Skin Hydrating Masque to a clean face and throat and leave for 10 minutes, then rinse with tepid water or remove with The Sponge Cloth.

Equipped with Dermalogica’s unique Face Mapping® skin analysis method and a wealth of skin knowledge, your professional skin therapist will decode your skin, zone by zone, and prescribe you with a tailored, results-driven routine. To supplement and further-enhance the results of your at-home routine, a monthly skin treatment with a professional skin therapist is highly recommended.

Why is a regular treatment with a professional skin therapist important for my skin health? For the same reason doctor and dentist check-ups are necessary: for better health!

At Dermalogica, we train more than 75,000 skin therapists a year. Dermalogica professional skin therapists are licensed, intensely educated skin health experts trained to prescribe Dermalogica products and deliver Dermalogica professional skin treatments. They have the answers to your most pressing skin care concerns and vitally know how to deliver real, visible results.

What makes the Dermalogica Skin Treatment different from other treatments and facials?

The Skin Treatment is not a facial; it is predominantly concerned with treating the client’s individual skin concerns, finalised with an element of relaxation. The treatment is completely customisable to the individual client for maximum results.

The structure of the treatment is as follows:

1. In-depth Consultation: this enables the therapist to learn more about the client’s lifestyle and contraindications.

2. Double Cleanse: all traces of make-up are cleansed off, followed by a Double Cleanse of the face, under steam, using the appropriate cleanser for the client’s skin.

3. Face Mapping® skin analysis: the professional skin therapist decodes the skin, zone by zone under a magnifying mirror.

4. Exfoliation: Dermalogica’s exfoliation formulas combine many unique technologies, ensuring maximum effectiveness and the utmost safety.

5. Extractions: using a unique extraction technique developed by the International Dermal Institute, comedone and milia are removed effectively, ensuring no damage to the skin.

6. Serums & Masques: Dermalogica’s serums contain high concentrations of active ingredients to treat underlying skin concerns. Applied under a professional strength masque, these are delivered deeply into the skin with the aid of electrical modalities (such as Galvanic and High Frequency).

7. Touch Therapies: Touch therapies are ideal for any client who needs the extra benefits of stress relief, and can include a variety of massage therapies and treatments targeting the back, scalp, hands and feet and eyes.

8. Moisturiser & SPF: Moisturisers are vital to every skin condition to protect the skin’s natural defence against the environment while controlling moisture loss from the skin. Separate eye treatment products are applied around the delicate eye area to repair damage and treat signs of ageing. SPF is applied after every treatment (either a product with SPF or a separate SPF) to ensure skin is fully-protected against UV rays.

9. Intelligent Coverage: the final step in the skin treatment is an application of colour - Dermalogica’s treatment coverage system (Sheer Tint SPF20 and Cover Tint SPF20) combines make-up and skin care benefits to ensure for a flawless finish.

Are one or several of these your priority skin concerns? Whilst an at-home skin care routine is essential, regular professional skin treatments will further-help to deliver overall great skin health. Dr Diana Howard, Vice President of Research and Development at Dermalogica agrees: “with the myriad of environmental aggressors we face every day such as air and water pollutants, UV damage and exposure to thousands of chemicals, the need for regular skin treatments, in combination with a customised at-home care routine is absolutely critical for optimum skin health”. However, modern lifestyle often prevents us from investing enough time in professional skin treatments to help deliver these results.

Cue Active Resurface 35; an advanced 45-minute resurfacing treatment that applies a cocktail of advanced cosmeceutical ingredients. The treatment is completely customisable to individual skin requirements by utilising Dermalogica’s unique Face Mapping® skin analysis technique along with a thorough professional consultation and provides intense resurfacing to stimulate cell renewal and cell turnover whilst helping to treat some of the most prevalent skin concerns (pigmentation, dehydration, dehydration and congestion).

Skin care professionals recognise exfoliation as one of the most effective treatments for addressing major skin concerns. With maturity, our skin’s natural desquamation process slows, causing a build-up of dead corneocytes at the skin’s surface. This decrease in cell turnover is also accompanied by a slowdown in the cell renewal rate. With this in mind, UK Education Manager Sally Penford confirms, “Dermalogica does not rely upon one form of ‘active’ ingredient, but rather a synergy of ‘actives’ to achieve maximum results utilising a combination of cosmeceutical botanicals, alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA’s) and beta hydroxyl acids (BHA’s) – always with skin health as a priority”.

A unique benefit of the Active Resurface 35 treatment is the lack of inflammation, tissue damage and peeling generally associated with intense resurfacing treatments. As a result, an interval of only one week is all that is necessary between appointments when partaking in a six-course treatment plan.

There are three different options of exfoliation which can be further personalised:

Power Active Option, that accelerates to the Intensive Active Option and then reaches to the Ultimate Active Option – the height of professional exfoliation. In each option the therapist will use a combination of Dermalogica exfoliating products to achieve optimum results.

To find out more and book in to try the new treatment, contact your local Dermalogica skin centre.

Move over mood swings! Did you know hormones are also responsible for breakouts, pigmentation, sagging, and dehydrated skin? One hundred percent of women have to deal with the effects of their hormones at some point in their life – whether it’s during puberty, pregnancy, menopause, or even stressful situations.

On Monday 11th March, Education Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa of the International Dermal Institute, Sharon Maxwell, hosted a Guest Speaker Seminar on this pertinent subject. Dermalogica stockists and students attended the seminar to hear Sharon’s educated thoughts on the myths and truths of the subject. Having joined The International Dermal Institute over 20 years ago, Sharon is a globally-acknowledged industry expert and in her role as Education Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa is responsible for developing education in these countries at a postgraduate level.

During her lecture, Sharon successfully blended highly-scientific information, current statistics and innovative visual aids with personal stories and experiences. From recognising the effects of oestrogen on the skin to recommending ingredients to clients affected by hormonal fluctuation, the evening comprised a wide variety of topics. On the subject of puberty, “we cannot stop the cause but we can recognise and deal with the problems”. Attendees received an insight into which hormones are responsible for changes in skin, how they work and what can be done to treat your clients going through these changes with a special emphasis on those during menopause; notably Sharon shared: “in life we always say ‘it’s about balance’ and this true of hormones too, only a slight change in their balance can cause significant effects in the body”.

The evening concluded with questions and an open discussion with individuals regarding specific problems they had observed within their skin centre.

The next IDI seminar will be A Medical Aesthetics Update with Dr Peter Forrester, Dr Mark Aitken & Dr Natalie Blakely.

Dr Peter Forrester will discuss licensing and regulation within the rapidly expanding field of cosmetic medicine, exploring current controversies and developments for the future. Dr Mark Aitken will overview and demonstrate the innovative treatment licenced as Thermavein®, which shows instant improvement for thread veins, spider veins, rosacea, vascular blemishes and spider naevi through thermocoagulation. Dr Natalie Blakely will discuss and demonstrate the pioneering technique, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy which is breaking new ground in aesthetic and healing medicine.

Tuesday 21st May, 6:00pm-8:00pm

Call to book now: 08000 564 544 (UK)
